This challenge was inspired by an idea from Lisa Bearnson. Lisa is both mine and Sunny’s Scrapbook Idol! We just love her and her work. In her book OUR FAMILY SCRAPBOOKS, Lisa Bearnson shared an idea for defining who you are. She says, Does your family know who you are? Do they know your likes and dislikes, your hopes and dreams, your goals and values?”
Create a layout that will teach your family members more about who you are through a series of “What if” questions.
Here are some examples from some of the layouts in the Our Family Scrapbooks idea book:
If you cold have personally witnessed one event in history, what would you have wanted to see?
If you could have lived during one period of time in past history, when and where would it be?
If you could cure any disease, what would it be?
If you could change one thing in the world right now, what would you alter?
If you had to choose someone right now to be the president of the United States, who would you want it to be?
If you could change one of your personality traits, what would it be?
If you could adopt one personality trait from someone you know, what would you take and from whom?
If you could eliminate one habit you have, what would you stop doing?
If you could eliminate one of your pet peeves, what would you get rid of?
If you could have one job in the world, what would it be?
If my family and I could do anything on a Saturday, what would it be?
If I could teach my children only one thing, what would it be?
If I could thank just one person for being the biggest influence in my life, who would it be?
If my family could live anywhere, it would be?
These questions are great conversion starters. There was a group of books wrote in the 90’s asking IF questions. I took a class from Lisa Bearnson where we created a mini book full of If questions. Now I have created a layout to go with my Lifetime Story Album updated with new questions that relate to where I am at in my life now.
Here are some other questions to get you started…these would also be cut into strips and placed at your dinner table to start conversations. You could also ask your children or family members these questions to create a layout about their IF’s.
If you had to be trapped in a TV show for a month, which show would you choose?
If you could wake up tomorrow in the body of someone else currently living, would you do so? Whom would you pick?
If you could have one superpower, which would you choose?
If you could be any age again for one week, what age would you be?
If you could plan a trip anywhere in the world for yourself and your mate, where would you like to go?
If you could bring one character to life from your favorite book, who would it be?
If you could be any animal, what animal would you be and why?
If you could be invisible for a day, what would you do and why?
If you could spend a day with a famous person, who would it be and what questions would you ask that person?
If you had one wish, what would it be?
If you were a fruit, what fruit would you be and why?
If you were a candy, what candy would you be and why?
If time stood still? What time would you like to go back to or have happen in the future?
If you could snap your fingers or twitch your nose and have whatever you wanted?
If you never had to wonder “what if?” and everything just happened for you? Would this be a good thing or a bad thing? Would it depend on the situation?
If school went year round?
If you could have any job you wanted?
If you could have starred in any music video in history, which would you pick?
If you could start a new fashion trend at school, what style would you propose?
If you had to name the single most important ingredient for a spiritual life, what wouldyou say it is?
If you were to describe your attitude toward sin, what would you say?
If you were to describe a way in which the soul of a person is tested, what would you say?
If you had to remember the moment in your life when you felt the most alone, when would it be?
If you were to name one event that most challenged your relationship with your family, what would you say?
If your soul was a color, which color would it be?
If you could have learned one life lesson earlier than you did, which one would you want it to be?
If you were asked where and how you learned to , what would you say?
If you found a million dollars? What would you do with it?
If you had a time machine? Where would you go?
If you could interview anybody you wanted? Who would you talk to? What would you ask them?
